About me and my interest in Asterisk
I'm an Asterisk user since 2003. My preference is towards small embedded distributions like Askozia & Astlinux, running on low power systems. I frequently experiment with new phones & interface devices. I've written a number of articles detailing my experiences.

Digium's Mark Spencer Guest On FLOSS Weekly

The TWiT guys posted a podcast with Mark Spencer just a couple of days back. Over an hour long. Pretty cool stuff. Mark's such a nice guy to be also such a visionary.

An Odd Confluence Of Events; VoWifi, Calliflower, Airlines & William Shatner

I spent much of this past week in Los Angeles. I was all set to fly home Friday morning but my last meeting canceled so I got myself on the last flight out Thursday evening, a 6pm departure. Except it wasn't. Thunderstorms in Houston, and bad weather elsewhere in the east, had caused a myriad of delays and cancellations. My 6pm departure was pushed back until almost 9pm. No big deal. No point in making a fuss. It was still better than killing the next day getting home. Besides, I could use the… Continue

One of the major reasons I couldn't consider them is that their business class service relied upon an ATA and an analog phone. Apparently it still does. We had a requirement for SIP hard phones in a variety of locations. This also begs the question, "w… Continue

Asterisk Where You Least Expect it

I'm on-the-road again the next few weeks. This week I have meetings in Burlington VT. That's just about as far from Houston as you can get up the East coast. The pity is that the northeast has been having Houston style weather, hot & humid. I had hoped from something of a break from it during my travels. As I travel I amuse myself by listening to podcasts. This week I'm contributing as well. I'm part of a group of volunteers that have stepped up to help Dan York & Jonathan Zar with audi… Continue

How To Add a Cellular Trunk To Your VOIP System

Small Net Builder has put up part two of my article about implementing a GSM gateway. My implementation tried both a hosted PBX and a local Asterisk server. I was able to achieve all but one of my goals so the project has been successful.
